How To Adjust The Floating Top Links On A Bush Hog?

(Last Updated On: July 30, 2020)

The bush hog rotary mower can be attached with a three-point hitch on a compact utility tractor. The rotary mower is designed in such a way that it can mow in dense areas where the grass has grown out of control. Usually, the tough grass, crops, and bushes cannot be cut by a riding lawnmower. The floating top link on a bush hog can be raised or lowered according to the user’s convenience. You can adjust the link quite quickly, and surprisingly it doesn’t take more than five minutes. In this buying guide, we will discuss how to adjust the floating top links on a bush hog.

Step 1

It would be best if you parked the tractor along with the bush hog on a sturdy surface. There is a three-point hitch level that you can pull on the right side beside the driver’s seat. Raising the bush hog to the height of mowing can give the best results. The bars or chains attached with a bush hog will provide a clean cut only if the tractor has an adjustable stop. The top link of the three-point hitch is easy to adjust, and you can rotate it with the help of screws. The floating top link is compatible with a bush hog, and it can rotate up and over according to the tasks. The front edge is usually very sharp, and it will not allow something big to hit it. The chain isn’t very safe, and you need to adjust it with the top link very well.

Step 2

Setting the parking brake is easy, as you have to turn off the critical position. You will see a top nut on the top link and loosen it up using a crescent wrench. The most common mistake that people make is that they use rotary cutters that are too low. They are not designed to act like a mower, and if you want to cut tall grass that is two inches high, you need to have a finishing mower instead. The bush hog mower has top-link mounts that will flex as much as the feet of the bush hog, making it convenient to operate. Ensure that the mower doesn’t rotate more than 30 degrees upwards, and the operation will be safe and effective.

Step 3

You will have to rotate the floating top link by turning the handle clockwise and will lower down to the front of the bush hog, and the next step is, to counterclockwise so it can be raised to the front of the mower. Keep repeating this move until the bush hog is level and in the same position as the floating top link. There are manual instructions given by the manufacturers, but they always state that the top hitch can adjust well and swing freely without any restrictions. Please don’t use the chain on the bush hog without adjusting it correctly. The process of adjusting will take only 5 minutes if you follow the instructions properly.
